How To Make Your Whole Home Smell Like Pumpkin Spice

It’s the fall season and you know what that means, right? Pumpkin spice everything!

I am a product of my Zodiac sign! Autumn is my favorite, followed quickly by snow in the winter season. I love, love, love these seasons! For me, it is a time for thoughtful inward patterns that help you launch big creative plans outwardly. I love designing my life and assisting others to create the life they love! Part of that is our environment. We used to be a collector of candles until I started understanding the toxic load they create in our homes and bodies. I quickly got rid of those and replace these beauties with a green solution in the Ultrasonic Diffuser!

The time of year pumpkin spice hits the store, from air fresheners to scented candles. The problem is that those air fresheners and candles are loaded with chemicals which have been linked to health problems, such as asthma, allergies, and other major respiratory issues.

Generally speaking, on air fresheners and scented candles, the term “fragrance” is far from “natural”. When you see the term "fragrance", remember that it can include up to 300 toxic chemicals but still say just ‘fragrance’. Put those things into the environmental working group and see what comes up! They really should be outlawed. There have been a number of studies that have shown both synthetic air fresheners and scented candles can pose major health risks.

So what can you do? You could switch to a diffuser like we did 7-years ago. This is not a humidifier, it is specially designed to mist essential oils and water into the air at ultrasonic speed. That’s it – just use water and essential oils to recreate your favorite pumpkin spice and autumn scents without all those artificial chemical ingredients.

I definitely recommend doTERRA essential oils in order to get the highest certified quality and purest therapeutic benefit (this is where I get my essential oils). You see essential oils are the catalyst behind "aromatherapy" and can help address mood, memories, and overall health.  As soon as you smell a scent it hits the limbic system of the brain. That’s why you feel like you’re back in grandma’s kitchen when you smell freshly-baked cookies. The scent of bread, food of any kind, or cookies makes you feel good. Why? Because you remember making them with grandma or the tradition of family gatherings. It's the way the brain is hardwired.

Diffusing these seasonal inspired scents can be a great way to help transition you and your family into the autumn, which then will help to clean up the environment (surfaces in your living space), address mood, all while creating a space of whole wellness.  We diffuse in our barn, too. It keeps our animals healthy and helps the smell factor!

Enjoy a bit of yum in your autumn joy with my favorite essential oil recipes for my diffuser below!
